7 Reasons to Say No to Reverse Osmosis Water Units

Are you planning to buy a water purifier for your home? Are you confused which water purifier to go for? Read on to eliminate at-least one option from your list - reverse osmosis water units.

(i) The most important reason to say no to reverse osmosis water units is that they are not capable of filtering pharmaceutical drugs and few pesticides which have smaller molecular size. Due to smaller size, they simply pass through the porous membrane of a RO filter. The filtered water is not 100% pure.

(ii) These RO based units strip away essential minerals from the water. These minerals are present in natural water and drinking water rich in them is the best way to ensure regular intake of these minerals. Calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron - all these minerals are required for maintaining the general health of the body. Consuming water lacking in these minerals, results into deficiencies and health problems.

(iii) These reverse osmosis water units waste a lot of water. Large amount of water is actually consumed to produce a lesser amount of filtered one. The ratio of water which is wasted in the process to the one which is generated is roughly 3:1. This means, for generating 1 gallon of filtered water, 3 gallons of water will be actually wasted.

(iv) These RO units are least customizable. They need a special outlet pipe to be installed near the drainage area. Unlike other purifiers which are available in under-counter, over-counter configurations, not much customization are available with RO units.

(v) They have an extra cost of sanitizing the unit. Mostly all disinfectants except for chlorine are expensive. Using chlorine is not recommended due to its property of reacting with organic contaminants and generating toxic by-products.

(vi) Reverse osmosis is a slow process. It makes these reverse osmosis water units extremely slow and time consuming.

(vii) These units are very expensive as compared to the other water filters available in the market. Moreover they consume a lot of electricity and are expensive to maintain too.

Due to the afore-mentioned reasons, reverse osmosis water units are a strict "no" to be used. Why pay extra money when you can get something even more effective in reasonable price?

The best alternative to these units are multi-stage water filters. These purifiers are equally effective in removing contaminants, even the drugs, which a RO unit leaves un-separated from the water. These purifiers do not remove essential minerals from the water. They are easy to maintain and come with reasonably priced replacement cartridges.

Instead of wasting time and money on reverse osmosis water units, discover a better option. I bet you will simply love the taste of clean and pure drinking water especially when it will be available without hurting your wallet.
